Fishing is an activity which can be used to earn jellybeans and add fish to a Toon's collection. As a Toon catches fish, they earn trophies and additional laff points. There is a total of seventy fish that can be caught.
In addition to fish, objects such as old boots and jellybean jars can also be caught. Catching an old boot is worthless, however, during Fish Bingo it will allow any space on the bingo board to be filled. Jellybean jars instantly reward Toons with a certain number of jellybeans, depending on the fishing rod that they use.
Fish are indicated by circle-shaped shadows in the water. The shadow always appears the same size and shape, therefore it does not signal the fish that will be caught.
A pond is an area where a Toon is able to fish. They are located in each playground (excluding Goofy Speedway), street, and the estate. To begin fishing, the Toon can simply walk up to an unused dock. The cast button must be held down, pulled back and released to aim at a shadow; a successful cast will lead to a fish or object being caught. A maximum of twenty fish can be held in the bucket at once, in which the fish must then be sold to a fisherman before the Toon is able to fish again. The fisherman sells the fish that Toons to the Pet Shops. If the Toon receives more jellybeans in payment than they can carry, the extra jellybeans will overflow into the Toon's jellybean bank at their estate. This mechanic can be used as a quick way to make jellybeans. Simply by catching and selling fish there is no need to repeatedly deposit jellybeans in the Toon's jellybean bank like with the Trolley.
A Toon will always start with the weakest tier rod, the Twig Rod. There are several upgrades that can be purchased from Clarabelle's Cattlelog; a new rod become available per four cattlelogs. A stronger rod is essential to catch new fish species which may not have been available by using the previous rod, however it also costs an additional jellybean to cast. The following rods are available, ordered from weakest to strongest:
There are currently 70 fish species that can be found. The following charts have been devised to give players an idea of where they can find each fish. A higher rarity number refers to a more rare fish.
Fish Bingo is an event which occurs every Wednesday and every Silly Saturday where the event switches with Trolley Tracks and Grand Prix an hour at a time. The aim is to fill the board which appears in the fishing GUI. If a Toon catches a fish which appears on the board, the corresponding spot will flash red; the spot must be clicked before it becomes marked. If the objective of the board is achieved, the bingo button will begin to flash, and the first Toon to press the button is rewarded the jellybeans.
If an old boot is caught, any spot can be selected on the board. The white spots are required to complete the board, and the grey spots are not required. The lowest reward is 10 jellybeans, and the highest is 80 jellybeans.
For every ten new fish species a Toon catches, they earn a fishing trophy and a laff boost. There are seven trophies in total for 70 fish. This accumulates to a total of seven laff boosts from all seven.
All trophies go up in tier from bronze to silver to gold:
Fishing was officially released on November 2, 2013.
There are two fish shadows in all ponds, except for at estates where there are three, and the Event Grounds where there are four.
A fishing pond in Chip 'n Dale's Acorn Acres, which did not exist in Toontown Online, was added on October 3, 2014.
The chances of catching certain types of fish were tweaked in the first Toontown Tweaks update.
Another tweak introduced in the second Toontown Tweaks update was a fishing bucket at the estates to sell fish in, rather than having to go to a playground and find a fisherman.
Within the Event Grounds, Toons can fish for ToonFest tokens rather than jellybeans.
