Panda3D (Platform Agnostic Networked Display Architecture) is a game engine, a framework for 3D rendering and game development for Python and C++ programs. The engine was created and is still used for commercial uses, and emphasizes on "power, speed, completeness and error tolerance". It is completely open-source, with online documentations, and was used by Disney for creating online games such as Toontown Online.
Toontown Rewritten of course also runs on Panda3D. Visual and audial resources, such as textures, 3D models and sound effects, are stored in "phase files" - which are compressed files that Panda3D can access and display for Toons. Although it is not required to download Panda3D in order to play Toontown Rewritten, it is required for viewing phase files.
